Professor Zhiqiang Cai awarded the CoS Research Awards

The College of Science has announced that Professor Zhiqiang Cai of the Department of Mathematics is one of three recipients of the 2019 College of Science Research Awards. These awards are open to top mid-career and senior level faculty members in the College of Science and are designed to recognize impactful research as indicated by citations, patents, funding, and involvement of graduate students. The 2019 Honorees are Zhiqiang Cai (Mathematics), Donna Fekete (Biological Sciences) and Leonid Rokhinson (Physics and Astronomy). The CoS Research Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 21st in STEW 214ABCD and will include research presentations by each of the recipients.

About Dr. Zhiqiang Cai

Dr. Cai received his B.S. and M.S. from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, respectively, and his Ph.D from the University of Colorado in Applied Mathematics in 1990. He came to Purdue as an associate professor in 1996 after serving as postdoctoral fellow in the Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Courant Institute of New York University and as assistant professor in the University of Southern California. He has been a summer visiting faculty at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory since 2003. His research focuses on numerical solutions of partial differential equations, iterative techniques, computational solid and fluid mechanics, electromagnetics, a posteriori error estimation and adaptive Methods. Lately, his primary interest is on accuracy control of computer simulations and self-adaptive numerical methods for complex systems.
